The direction of a path determines whether it is internal or external. External paths run clockwise and internals run anti clockwise. This is because the right hand side of a plasma cut has a better quality than the left hand side. Reverse can be used to reverse the path direction so that it will de correctly defined as either internal or external.
Alternatively, in order to join a series of geometric entities (lines, arcs, etc...) they must all have the same path direction. In this case you may need to use Reverse in order to give all of the segments the correct direction so they can be joined.
You can determine whether the path directions are correct by looking at the icon (for the part concerned) in the pane at the left of the screen.
