When you press the Hide Explorer button the left hand side of the screen will be collapsed creating more screen real estate for the main screen and the sequence list. This simply gives you a better view of the parts of the screen that you are using to work on the sequencing. Press the button again (it will have changed to Show Explorer) to return the screen to normal.
