Selection and Navigation in Editors tutorial

Editors open in the main window of PrimeCut NE's Quotes, Workorders, Nesting and Parts modules. Editors generally have a black background, and different editors are opened by tabs at the top of the screen. The editors where you are likely to use these selection techniques are Geometry (parts editor only), Nesting, Processing, and Sequencing.

PrimeCut provides a number of techniques for selecting parts and items.  These are common to all editors that allow selection, the difference lies in what sort of items the particular editor will allow you to select.

The Nesting Editor allows you to select the part (or cluster - see later) or, if the parts have been arrayed, the array of parts. In the Processing Editor, it selects path by path. In the Sequencing editor, it will select only that part (or cluster).

This tutorial is designed to show you where different methods of selection and navigation are appropriate.

To start this tutorial log in to PrimeCut NE and:

1Click on the Nesting module from the start screen.

2Click on the Open Plate openPlate button in the top left corner of the screen.

3Ensure the top leftmost drop-down box reads Show Nested

4In the <Invoice Number> field enter ExampleNest. Click Refresh. The Plate Selector window should appear as shown

5Double-click on the plate that appears in the window as shown.

Alternatively, using the Workspaces button on the selector screen, you can open a saved workspace with the nest already loaded:

After clicking, the Shelved Workspaces window will open, where a pre-defined workspace will be available to open. Note the mode is Nest, although Quoting and Workorder are also shelving mode candidates.

A preview of the parts to be cut and the nest is also available in this case. Select 'ExampleNest Nesting Workspace' and Open Workspace.
