DSTV Troubleshooting

Unfortunately the DSTV standard is not perfect, and some aspects of it are open to interpretation.   If you have a DSTV file that Primecut cannot open please notify Kinetic Support send us the problematic DSTV file for analysis.

Some common issues are described below:

Double-up of Marking Geometry

Sometimes DSTV file have marking represented twice, as both Punch Marking and as Powder Marking.   To correct this uncheck one of the marking options in User Options, DSTV Processing.

Warnings about Backside Processing

Profile machine are only capable of processing the plate from one side.  Often DSTV files will represent drilling or marking on the back side of the part.

Simple drilled holes through the part do not matter, these could be drilled from either side; but if geometric "backside marking" we will attempt to flip (mirror) the part, to bring it to the front, and the user will be warned that this has happened.

However if the part has marking on both sides, or marking on the back and countersunk or blind holes on the front, we cannot flip the part as it will render the frontside operations incorrect.  Instead we generate DSTV Warnings that backside marking has been ignored; this is is the best we can hope for in this scenario.

Zero Diameter Hole Handling

Some DSTV file have holes of zero diameter, eg

BO

  h     144.98s    180.00m      0.00

We treat these as "Pop Marks", and create a 1mm Diameter circle geometries, hinted for marking:
