Pie

The Pie shape is a circular sector: an arc of a given radius closed by two straight edges back to the centre of the circle, like a pie with a slice taken out. Use it for sector-shaped parts, segments of a ring blank, or a disk with a wedge removed.

It appears in the shapes library under Round Shapes.

Insert point and direction

The centre of the circle is the insert point (Base X, Base Y). The arc always starts on the –X side of the centre (the 9 o’clock position) and runs anticlockwise through the Swept Angle. The profile is one closed path: the arc, then a straight edge from the end of the arc to the centre, then a straight edge from the centre back to the start of the arc.

With the default 300° the arc runs from 180° round to 120°, so the missing 60° wedge is at the upper left, between the –X axis and 120°. Use Rotation (see Transform) to turn the opening to another direction.

The Radius dimension is drawn from the centre through the middle of the arc. The Swept Angle dimension is drawn from the –X edge round to the other straight edge.

Properties

Property

Description

Default

Radius

Radius of the arc, from the centre (the insert point) to the arc. Length units. Minimum 0. A Radius of 0 gives a single point at the insert point.

50 mm (2 in when working in inches)

Swept Angle

Angle the arc covers, measured anticlockwise from the –X side of the centre. Degrees. Range 0° to 360°. The part is the sector inside this angle; the wedge left out is 360° minus the Swept Angle.

300°

Limits

•A Swept Angle of 360° gives a full circle of the given Radius, centred on the insert point, with no straight edges. The same happens when the Swept Angle is within g_ComponentTol (a small code tolerance, compared with the angle in radians) of 360°.

•A Radius of 0 gives a single point, whatever the Swept Angle.

Errors and values to avoid

If building the geometry raises an error, the error is caught, no geometry is drawn, a broken-shape marker is shown at the insert point, and the property page shows Warning: Cannot build shape from these parameters. The code has no explicit check for the two cases below, so do not rely on a warning appearing for them:

•Swept Angle of 0° (an arc of zero length). Set a Swept Angle above 0°.

•Radius greater than 0 but very small. Only a Radius of exactly 0 is treated as a point; a very small non-zero Radius is built as a very small arc.

Every 2D shape also has the Transform properties (Base X, Base Y, Rotation, Scale, Mirroring X) and the Polar Array properties, listed after the shape's own properties.
