Rect with 2 holes

The Rect with 2 holes is a rectangular plate with two round holes of the same diameter cut through it, side by side on one horizontal line – a mounting plate, strap, tab or link with two bolt holes. The pair of holes is centred in the plate by default and can be moved off centre as a pair with the two hole offsets. All corners of the rectangle are sharp.

It appears in the shapes library under Rectangular Shapes and Gussets.

Insert point and orientation

The insert point is the bottom left corner of the rectangle. Width is built to the right along X and Height upwards along Y.

Both hole centres lie on the horizontal line half way up the plate (Height / 2), Horiz. Pitch apart, and the pair is centred on the middle of the Width. With both offsets at 0 the hole centres are at:

•left hole: ((Width − Horiz. Pitch) / 2, Height / 2) from the insert point

•right hole: ((Width + Horiz. Pitch) / 2, Height / 2) from the insert point

Hole Offset X and Hole Offset Y are added to both centres, so the two holes always move together and keep their pitch.

Properties

Lengths are in the current units (mm or inches). The defaults are stored in millimetres, so they are the same values in both unit systems; the inch figures in brackets are those values converted and rounded.

Property

Description

Default

Width

Overall width of the rectangle, along X. Cannot be negative.

50 mm (1.97 in)

Height

Overall height of the rectangle, along Y. Cannot be negative.

75 mm (2.95 in)

Hole D

Diameter of each hole; both holes are the same size. Cannot be negative. If Hole D is 0 no holes are cut; a single point is placed at each hole centre instead.

12.5 mm (0.49 in)

Horiz. Pitch

Distance along X between the two hole centres. Cannot be negative. The solid web between the holes is Horiz. Pitch − Hole D wide.

25 mm (0.98 in)

Hole Offset X

Moves both holes along X from their centred position. Positive moves them right, negative moves them left. The hole size and pitch do not change.

0

Hole Offset Y

Moves both holes along Y from the half-height line. Positive moves them up, negative moves them down. The hole size and pitch do not change.

0

The dimensions drawn on the shape are Width, Height, Horiz. Pitch (between the two hole centres) and Hole D (as a diameter, on the left hole).

Limits

The shape does not check that the holes fit inside the rectangle or clear each other. If the build raises an exception, the shape catches it and the property page shows the red bar "Warning: Cannot build shape from these parameters". Keep these conditions yourself:

•Horiz. Pitch must be greater than Hole D. At Horiz. Pitch equal to Hole D the holes touch; below it they overlap. At a pitch of 0 both holes are drawn on top of each other.

•Across the width: Horiz. Pitch + Hole D + 2 × |Hole Offset X| must be less than Width.

•Across the height: Hole D + 2 × |Hole Offset Y| must be less than Height.

Check the part outline after changing the hole size, pitch or offsets. A hole that touches or crosses the outside edge, or the other hole, gives an outline that is not a valid closed part.

Every 2D shape also has the Transform properties (Base X, Base Y, Rotation, Scale, Mirroring X) and the Polar Array properties, listed after the shape's own properties.
