Direct Selection

This method of selecting items simply involves clicking on (or close to) the path with the mouse. To select more than one item we hold down the CTRL key (at the bottom left of the keyboard) between selections.

1The plate should now be open in the nesting editor.  Click on one of the holes in the left most parts. Note how the outline of the whole part changes colour from white (unselected) to green (selected). Also, a number of blue handle symbols appear around the part for manipulation.

2Click in the middle of one of the big boxplan parts, away from any lines to deselect all. Note that our part is no longer selected.

3Click on the Processing tab at the top of the screen.

4Click on the outside edge of one of the box plan parts. Note that the path is now blue, and two bright blue handles for the Leadin and Leadout appear on the ends of the path. Note also that the internal circles are still yellow, not blue, because they are not selected. This is because the processing editor is path by path, not part by part.

5Press ESC to deselect all.

6Click on the Nesting tab at the top of the screen.

7Click inbetween two adjacent spurgear parts (except for the ones on the far right). As you should be able to see, two spurgears can be selected with a single Click, because they were both close enough to the cursor. (if only one was selected, press ESC and try again).

This is something to be cautious of, especially when dealing with small parts - using the Select Item selection technique may be more appropriate in such cases.

8Press ESC to deselect.

9Hold down CTRL, and one by one Click on all the spurgears in the bottom right hand corner. Note how the blue handles adjust to apply to all parts in your selection. Press ESC.

Note that multiple items can be selected the same way in the other editors (i.e. multiple paths in Process or Geometry editors, multiple parts in the Sequencing editor)
