Notched rectangle

The Notched rectangle is a rectangular plate with the same rectangular notch cut out of all four corners. The result is a cross-shaped outline. The four corner notches are the same size and relieve each corner of the plate.

It appears in the shapes library under Rectangular Shapes. The shape has no aliases (older names).

Insert point and orientation

The insert point (0,0) is the bottom left corner of the overall Width x Height rectangle. Because that corner is notched away, the insert point lies outside the material, Notch Width to the left of and Notch Height below the inside corner of the bottom left notch. Width runs along X and Height along Y, so the overall part occupies 0 to Width in X and 0 to Height in Y.

The outline is a single closed profile of twelve straight edges. It starts on the left edge at height Notch Height and runs clockwise: up the left side, across the top, down the right side and back along the bottom.

Properties

Property

Description

Default

Width

Overall size of the part in X, measured across the full rectangle including the notched corners (mm or inch).

75 mm (3")

Height

Overall size of the part in Y, measured across the full rectangle including the notched corners (mm or inch).

125 mm (5")

Notch Width

Size of each corner notch in X, measured in from the left and right edges (mm or inch). Applies to all four notches.

12.5 mm (0.5")

Notch Height

Size of each corner notch in Y, measured in from the top and bottom edges (mm or inch). Applies to all four notches.

25 mm (1")

The four notches are always the same size; they cannot be set individually.

The dimensions drawn on the shape are Height, Width, Notch Width and Notch Height. Height is measured at the inside edge of the left notches and Width at the inside edge of the bottom notches, so both span the full rectangle.

Notes

The shape does not check its values against each other. Keep the values within these limits:

•Notch Width less than half of Width, and Notch Height less than half of Height. At exactly half, the notches meet and the outline pinches to zero width. Beyond half, the outline folds back on itself, so its edges overlap and it is not a valid part.

•Width and Height positive. A Notch Width or Notch Height of 0 removes all four notches and leaves a plain rectangle.

If building the outline or its dimensions raises an error, the property page shows the red bar Warning: Cannot build shape from these parameters above the properties. The shape does not show that warning when a value breaks the limits above, so check the values yourself.

Every 2D shape also has the Transform properties (Base X, Base Y, Rotation, Scale, Mirroring X) and the Polar Array properties, listed after the shape's own properties on the property page.
