The Part Insert is a key concept in Primecut. At its simplest, a Part Insert represents an instance of a part nested on a plate. More subtly, it represents an instance of a Workorder Item referring to a Part. You cannot nest parts without first having a workorder or quote referring to them, with quantity required etc.
As such it records where on the plate the part is and at what rotation. But it can also represent an Array of a part. And the part it references may be a simple part from a workorder, or it may be a Cluster Part.
Nesting then, is the process of creating Part Inserts and arranging them on plates, thus making Nests.
