The Rectangle with Round Hole is a rectangular plate with one round hole cut through it – a base plate, mounting plate or spacer with a single bore. The hole is centred on the rectangle by default and can be moved off centre with the two hole offsets. All corners of the rectangle are sharp. This shape was formerly called Rectangle 3; searching for the old name still finds it.
It appears in the shapes library under Rectangular Shapes.
Insert point and orientation
The insert point is the bottom left corner of the rectangle. Width is built to the right along X and Height upwards along Y. With both offsets at 0 the centre of the hole is at the centre of the rectangle, (Width / 2, Height / 2) from the insert point; the offsets are added to that position.
Properties
Lengths are in the current units (mm or inches). The defaults shown are for a new shape. The first value is used when the program is set to mm; the value in brackets is used when it is set to inches.

Description |
Default |
ID |
Inside diameter: the diameter of the round hole. Cannot be negative. If ID is 0 no hole is cut; a single point is placed at the hole centre instead. |
50 mm (inch mode: 2 in) |
Hole Offset X |
Moves the hole centre along X from the centre of the rectangle. Positive moves it right, negative moves it left. The hole size does not change. |
0 |
Hole Offset Y |
Moves the hole centre along Y from the centre of the rectangle. Positive moves it up, negative moves it down. The hole size does not change. |
0 |
Width |
Overall width of the rectangle, along X. Cannot be negative. |
70 mm (inch mode: 3 in) |
Height |
Overall height of the rectangle, along Y. Cannot be negative. |
120 mm (inch mode: 5 in) |
The dimensions drawn on the shape are Width, Height, ID (as a diameter) and the two hole offsets, measured from the centre of the rectangle to the centre of the hole.
Limits
The shape does not check that the hole fits inside the rectangle. Width, Height and ID cannot be set below 0 in the property editor; Hole Offset X and Hole Offset Y can be negative. Keep these conditions yourself:
•With the hole centred, ID must be less than both Width and Height. At ID equal to the smaller side the hole touches the outside edges; above it the hole crosses them.
•With an offset, the hole edge must stay inside the rectangle: ID / 2 + |Hole Offset X| must be less than Width / 2, and ID / 2 + |Hole Offset Y| must be less than Height / 2.
Check the part outline after changing ID or the offsets. No warning is given for these cases: a hole that touches or crosses the outside edge is still built as a full circle overlapping the rectangle outline. The property page shows Warning: Cannot build shape from these parameters only if building the shape raises an error, and this shape has no checks of its own that do that.
Every 2D shape also has the Transform properties (Base X, Base Y, Rotation, Scale, Mirroring X) and the Polar Array properties, listed after the shape's own properties.
