Tomb Stone

The Tomb Stone is a flat plate with a square end and a half round end, with a rectangular hole through it. The half round end is a semicircle whose diameter is the plate Height, so the plate has no straight edge at that end. The hole has square corners.

It appears in the shapes library under Other Shapes.

Insert point and orientation

The insert point is the bottom left corner of the plate, on the square end. The plate is built to the right along X and upwards along Y. The straight part runs from X = 0 to X = Width and from Y = 0 to Y = Height. The semicircle is added beyond X = Width, centred on (Width, Height / 2), so the overall length of the part is Width + Height / 2.

The rectangular hole is always centred vertically on the plate. Its left edge is Rect Dist. from the square end, and it extends Rect. Width to the right of that edge.

Properties

The shape's own properties are listed in the order the property page shows them. Lengths are in the current units (mm or inch). The Default column gives the value for a new shape in metric, with the imperial value in brackets. The shape has no old names (aliases).

Property

Description

Default

Width

Length of the straight part of the plate along X, from the square end to the start of the half round end (mm or inch). It does not include the semicircle: the overall length is Width + Height / 2.

100 mm (4 in)

Height

Height of the plate along Y (mm or inch). This is also the diameter of the half round end.

50 mm (2 in)

Rect Dist.

Distance along X from the square (left) end of the plate to the left edge of the rectangular hole (mm or inch).

50 mm (2 in)

Rect. Height

Height of the rectangular hole along Y (mm or inch). The hole is centred on the mid height of the plate, so the wall above and below it is (Height − Rect. Height) / 2.

25 mm (1 in)

Rect. Width

Width of the rectangular hole along X, measured to the right from its left edge (mm or inch).

50 mm (2 in)

The dimensions drawn on the shape are Height, Width (the straight part only), Rect. Height, Rect. Width and Rect Dist.

With the defaults the right edge of the hole lies at X = Width, level with the point where the half round end starts, so the semicircle (radius 25 mm) leaves a 25 mm wall beyond the hole on the centre line.

Limits and errors

The shape does not check its values against each other or against the plate outline. Any value you enter is built as given, so check these conditions yourself:

•Rect. Height must be less than Height. At or above Height the hole reaches or crosses the top and bottom edges.

•Rect Dist. must be greater than 0. At 0 or less the hole reaches or crosses the square end.

•If Rect Dist. + Rect. Width is more than Width, the right end of the hole lies under the half round end, and its top and bottom corners must stay inside the semicircle. With r = Height / 2 and h = Rect. Height / 2, the right end of the hole must not pass Width + √(r² − h²).

•Enter positive values for every property. With a negative Width or Height the half round end curves into the plate instead of out of it.

Check the part outline after changing the hole size or position. The shape does not warn about a hole that touches or crosses the outline.

If building the geometry raises an error, the shape is flagged as broken. It then shows a broken-shape marker at its insert point, builds no dimensions and no polar copies, and the property page shows the red banner Warning: Cannot build shape from these parameters. Change the values until the banner clears; the flag is reset when the shape is rebuilt.

Every 2D shape also has the Transform properties (Base X, Base Y, Rotation, Scale, Mirroring X) and the Polar Array properties, listed after the shape's own properties.
