Copying Plates

Once you have successfully nested a plate it is possible that you will want more than one example to be cut, or reuse a nest that took careful planning in a different context.
You also may want to reuse a past example of a nest to use.
In PrimeCut there are three different ways of copying plates, which we will demonstrate in this tutorial.

Copying a Plate using Copy and Paste

1Use an enclosing rectangle over the whole plate or use CTRL + A to select all the nested parts.

2Press CTRL + C to copy the nest to the clipboard.

3Double-click on the empty plate in the plates explorer to open it in the nesting editor.

4Press CTRL + V to paste to the empty plate.
The nested parts have now been copied to a new plate, allowing you to reuse your nest.

5Press the clear plate button (the one in the main window toolbar, not on the left [which clears all selected plates]) 2943. Click Yes to the confirmation.

Copying a Plate using MultiClone

MultiClone allows you to quickly copy a plate (with all nesting, processing and crops) onto as many new plates as you would like. See Using QuickPlates.

1Right click the plate with the parts nested on it and click MultiClone (Create New Preorder Plates). MultiCloning onto backorder and stock plates can be enabled in the global settings.

2Choose 1 plate copy and click OK.

3MultiClone has now created a new exact copy of the original plate. These plates still have a unique PlateID in PrimeCut (as all plates do) to allow for tracking of heat numbers, serial numbers, when it was cut and by who, and other details.

4Clear the plate we just created.

Copying a Plate using Nest Re-use

Nest Re-use (memory nesting) provides a way to reuse existing nest either entirely or partially. It is particularly useful for reusing nest of plates cut in the past. See Memory Nesting.

We want to now upload the nest we have just made to the list of past nests. We first have to make sure the plate we want to use is not locked because we have it loaded already.

1Right-click on the empty plate in the plates explorer. Click Remove Plate from the popup menu. Click Yes when it asks if you're sure.
