Memory Nesting provides a convenient way to reuse existing nests, either in their entirety or partially. This can be:
• for historical reasons; cutting a similar workorder to one we cut in the past,
•or simply as a way of creating repeats of a nest for large part quantities within a single workorder.
In the latter case we have a new function MultiClone which may be easier.
Fundamental to PrimecutNE is the concept that every plate is unique, has a unique metallurgy, history etc and a unique PlateID. Therefore if we want to reuse a nest without losing traceability, we must copy the contents of that nest (its Part Inserts and Croplines) to other plates.
See Label Parts for a note on behaviour of special plate related text tags in Memory Nesting
Memory Nesting Example
In this example we have been given a repeat order for some parts we cut some time in the past...we don't know when:
Instead of renesting these, we will try to reuse the old nests that worked the first time. We click the Memory Nesting button highlighted above, and the system scans its database for all nests (whether cut, scheduled, or still in stock) containing references to the same parts. A result appears quickly, even though these plates were cut back in 2011 (9 years ago as I write!).
Equally , the system can find a plate that you have only just saved, useful in a different use-case, where you have a large quantity of parts to nest requiring many of the same nest. Just get one nest ready, save it, and use Memory Nesting to copy to as many stock plates as you would like (see MultiClone below for another approach in that case)
We select a nest that looks like its on a full plate, and press Next.
The next tab shows empty plates in stock available for us to copy these nests onto. All plates that can contain the nest are shown, so some listed are too big to be used for this nest. We select 3 3000x1500 plates. Ensure Partial Copy is checked, otherwise it will copy more parts than we have demand for (ie overnest). We have the option to Copy Crops and Copy Sequence, and usually we will do whatever we did last time so check these (with a partial copy we are not copying the full nest so we might redo the Crop anyway). At the top of the window we see the number of parts required (Needed) that existed on this source plate, and the number that will be copied. If Partial Copy is not checked, the number to copy may be greater than the number needed.
We click Copy to 3 Plates and the nests are copied. We can repeat the steps above until all the parts have been nested.
Another function has been provided for quickly repeating a previously cut workorder: Duplicate Job and Copy Nests. This is accessed from the workorder screen:
