The Filleted Rectangle is a rectangular plate with the same radius on all four corners. Use it for base plates, cover plates, pads and blanks where sharp corners are not wanted. Each corner is a quarter-circle arc that joins the straight sides tangentially. (Formerly named "Filleted rectangle"; searching for the old name still finds it.)
It appears in the shapes library under Rectangular Shapes.
Insert point and orientation
The insert point is the bottom left corner of the rectangle's bounding box – the point where the bottom and left edges would meet if the corner were not rounded. Width runs to the right along X and Height runs up along Y from that point, so the shape occupies X 0 to Width and Y 0 to Height. The outline is one closed path that starts on the left edge, at the top of the bottom left fillet, and goes clockwise.
Properties
Property |
Description |
Default |
Width |
Overall size along X, measured across the straight sides (mm or inch). |
75 mm (3 in) |
Height |
Overall size along Y, measured across the straight sides (mm or inch). |
125 mm (5 in) |
Fillet R |
Radius of the four corner arcs (mm or inch). The same radius is used on every corner. The fillet dimension is drawn on the top right corner. Limited by the size of the rectangle – see Notes. |
25 mm (1 in) |
The defaults are 75 mm, 125 mm and 25 mm in metric, and 3 in, 5 in and 1 in in imperial.
Notes
•The shape does not check its values. Zero or negative Width, Height or Fillet R are not rejected either. Keep Fillet R no larger than half of the smaller of Width and Height. A larger radius makes the straight edge between two adjacent corners run backwards, so the outline folds over itself and is self-intersecting. An oversize radius does not raise an error, so the "Warning: Cannot build shape from these parameters" bar does not appear for it; that bar only shows when building the shape raises an exception.
•Fillet R equal to half the smaller of Width and Height gives fully rounded ends on that side – a slot or obround shape. When Width and Height are equal this gives a full circle.
•A Fillet R of 0 is not special-cased. The outline then has repeated corner points, so for a rectangle with square corners use the Rectangle shape instead.
•For rounding on only some corners, use Rectangle with 2 Filleted Corners or Rectangle with 1 Filleted Corner.
•For a filleted rectangle with a filleted cutout in it, use the Filleted Rectangle with Filleted Hole shape.
Every 2D shape also has the Transform properties (Base X, Base Y, Rotation, Scale, Mirroring X) and the Polar Array properties, listed after the properties above.
