SmartFit Example

4 sizes of part to nest, all 350 wide by  500, 2500, 3100 and 8000 long:

Nesting across 2 plates each of 3 sizes:

2x 2400x1200,

2x 3000x1500

2x 6000x3000:

(One of the 4 parts to nest  8000x350  is larger than all the plates- it will not be nested as it does not fit)

Without SmartFit

Nesting the plates in the order presented: in this case smallest to biggest, results in smallest parts being nested into the smaller plates first, resulting in 5 plates used, including one of the largest plates being only half-utilized:

Without SmartFit: plates ordered smallest to largest

Without SmartFit: plates ordered smallest to largest

If we reverse the order of the plates, biggest to smallest, then the two largest plates are used, and one of them is only a fraction used; it would have been better to nest this on a smaller plate.

Without SmartFit: plates ordered largest to smallest

Without SmartFit: plates ordered largest to smallest

With SmartFit

If the setting is changed to SmartFit (or one of its variants):

smartfit6

We get one big plate filled up, one small plate mostly full:

(the order the plates are presented with this setting does not affect the outcome)

With SmartFit: plates order does not affect result. Large parts are nested on the smallest plate that fits them, and smaller parts are nested around them.
