Costings for spindle tools do not rely on the Costing ID code but instead use the tool name from the Spindle Table This means that the tool name used in the Costing Data must match exactly the name used in the Spindle Table.
To view the data click on the Drilling tab and then click on the Material for which you would like to view the data.
To edit an existing entry just double-click on that line. To add a new entry press the Add Spindle button. A dialog will appear allowing you to enter a Name and the other fields shown on the table.
The actual values that you enter for these tools will depend on how long the tools last on your machine. This must be determined from your experience in running the machine.
Extra Travel (or Overshoot) is the extra vertical distance the drill travels when drilling through a given thickness of plate. For example if drilling 1" plate, the drill tip will start a little above the plate and continue past the bottom of the plate a distance so its shoulder clear the bottom of the plate, and commonly an extra 3/8" (10mm or so) may be required. This is used make make the drill time calculation more accurate.
Customers frequently have a large number of grades of steel with similar machinability properties, as well as a very large number of drill tools. We therefore recommend grouping grades which drill or mill with similar speeds and feeds into families, and to enter the spindle costing data against the family rather than the individual grade.
It is useful for rendering for Primecut to know the Bit Diameter and the Tip Angle, and these can be entered as below:
Bit Diameter is also used for hole collision detection, and for offsetting Pre-pierces so the cutting tool pierces on the very edge of the drilled hole.
